2008 Grand National

2008 grand national aintree race horse

Since it’s inaugural running in 1839, the John Smith’s Grand National has become the most famous chase in the world. There is nothing quite like that sensation of the heart-clutching, wriggling expectation as the 40-strong field are persuaded into line, ready to tackle the first of the thirty fences.

The winner of the 2008 John Smith’s Grand National is Comply or Die, ridden by Timmy Murphy and trained by David Pipe.

The effect on rice caused by resonance

This is an example of Chladni plate resonance. The rice itself isn’t vibrating, it is the plate underneath the rice that is vibrating. There are nodes that do no vibrate at each frequency, and this is where the rice accumulates. each frequency has different nodes, that is why the pattern changes. Many luthiers use this type of testing when building their instruments. It can be a good predictor of how an instrument soundboard will sound when compared to known good plate patterns.
